Frequently Asked Questions

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based, individualized approach to teaching new skills and reducing behaviors that interfere with learning or daily life.

Each client’s program is designed and supervised by a New York State Licensed (LBA) and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and implemented by a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) under BCBA guidance.

ABA helps individuals learn in small, measurable steps, using positive reinforcement to make progress motivating and lasting.

ABA therapy focuses on helping your child reach their full potential — one meaningful skill at a time. It can help your child:

• Communicate more effectively
• Build stronger social connections
• Improve attention and learning habits
• Increase independence in daily routines
• Manage frustration, transitions, and emotions

Every child’s program is built around their unique strengths, needs, and family priorities. Progress is tracked with data so that strategies can be adjusted for the best results.

A comprehensive ABA program includes the following steps:

1. Initial Assessment – Your BCBA evaluates your child’s current skills, challenges, and environment.
2. Goal Setting – Together, we establish measurable goals that reflect your family’s priorities.
3. Treatment Plan Development – The BCBA creates a detailed program outlining teaching strategies and target outcomes.
4. Therapy Implementation – Your RBT provides 1:1 therapy under BCBA supervision.
5. Data Review & Adjustments – Progress is tracked and reviewed weekly to keep your child moving forward.
6. Parent Training – Families learn to reinforce the same strategies across home and community settings.

Every session is customized to your child’s needs, but sessions often include a blend of structured teaching and natural play-based learning.

Therapy may focus on goals such as:

• Practicing social and communication skills
• Building self-help routines like dressing or eating
• Strengthening attention, following directions, or emotional control
• Increasing independence during daily activities

Sessions are positive, engaging, and child-centered — built to keep learning fun and motivating.

Your child’s care team includes:

Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) – Conducts assessments, designs individualized treatment plans, and provides ongoing supervision. BCBAs hold graduate degrees and national certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or Behavior Technician (BT) – Works 1:1 with your child to implement therapy goals. RBTs complete at least 40 hours of specialized training, a competency assessment, and continuous supervision. BTs are training to become RBTs. We provide continuing education and skill development to ensure each team member delivers consistent, high-quality care.
Parents and Caregivers – Play a vital role through collaboration, communication, and family training to extend progress beyond therapy sessions.

We provide in-home ABA therapy across the region, with flexible scheduling during afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Depending on your child’s goals, therapy may also occur in school or community settings such as after-school activities, birthday parties, and public places your child frequents. The BCBA will recommend the most effective environment for your child’s progress.

Yes. Parent and caregiver involvement is critical to success.

You’ll receive hands-on parent training to learn strategies that reinforce your child’s progress outside of sessions. BCBAs also meet with families regularly to review data, adjust goals, and celebrate achievements.

An adult (18 or older) must be present in the home during therapy.
You don’t need to stay in the therapy room.

After the intake and assessment process, your BCBA will recommend a number of therapy hours based on your child’s skill level, goals, and medical necessity. Most children receive between 10 and 40 hours per week of therapy, depending on clinical needs and insurance coverage.

ABA therapy is a long-term, skill-building approach.

Most children participate for 3 years or more, depending on their goals, age, and rate of progress. The goal is not just to reduce behaviors but to build lasting independence and help your child thrive in all settings — home, school, and community.

The process usually takes 2–6 weeks, depending on:

• Scheduling the assessment
• Insurance verification and authorization
• Therapist availability in your area

Our Intake Team will assist with insurance verification and provide updates on your child’s status.

Yes — if your child is 3 years or older, an autism diagnosis is required for insurance-funded ABA therapy. We can help you navigate this process and connect with the right professionals. Contact us for more information

Costs vary depending on your insurance plan and the number of authorized therapy hours.
We accept most major insurance plans and Medicaid, and offer private pay options.

Our Intake Team will complete a Verification of Benefits (VOB) to confirm your coverage and help you understand your financial responsibility before services begin.

If your child has received an autism diagnosis and you’re ready to explore ABA therapy, start with our Intake Form or contact us to speak with a member of our team. We’ll guide you every step of the way — from insurance verification to your first session.
